Two shops in Dhanmondi were fined a total of 65,000 taka today for violating the tobacco control law by displaying cigarette ads. The manager of one shop was arrested due to his inability to pay the fine. All the advertising and promotional materials were removed from the shops and destroyed. The executive magistrate of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office of Dhaka, Md. Shawakat Ali runs this mobile court.

Zarurirah Shop on Satmasjid Road was fined 50,000 taka for violating the tobacco control law by displaying various ads for Marlboro cigarettes. The manager of Zarurirah Shop was arrested for two months or until he pays the fine. Later on, manager is released after provide fined amount to the government treasury.

In addition, Dynamic Food Corner at Dhanmondi Lake was fined 15,000 taka for displaying cigarette promotional material.

During mobile court operation, Nazmul Hossain Khan, Inspector of Narcotics Department of Dhanmondi area, Shamul Haque and Matiur Rahman, Sub Inspector of Dhanmondi Police Station, Syeda Anonna Rahman, National Advocacy Officer of Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB) Trust and Mir Abdur Razzak, Executive Director of Social Advancement Forum (SAF) were present.
